Still Using Live 11?

Here's how to transition to 12, and why you might want to

Ableton released Live 12 earlier this year with a number of enhancements. Many producers still use Live 11 and don’t know why or how to upgrade.

  • Live 12 isn’t an automatic update from 11; you must visit Ableton’s site and purchase it.

  • Live 12 costs $229 for Suite users and $159 for Standard users.

  • Sound libraries will migrate from 11 to 12. You might only need to make sure that the preferences match your settings.

  • Live 12 isn’t drastically different from 11, yet it offers some new features that could be very handy.

Convert MIDI clips into audio easily this way [workflow trick]

Instead of flattening the entire MIDI track or recording the MIDI clip in real-time, you can use this trick.

Freeze the MIDI track, then hold the ‘Option’ (Mac) or ‘Alt’ (Windows) key and drag the MIDI clip to a new audio track. It’s that simple.
